One for all, all for one - More family fitness ideas

changiboardwalkWith the September break coming up in a few weeks, take this chance to spend some 'active time' with the kids and get fit at the same time. We give you more ideas to get you started - whether you've got a whole day or just hours to spare.

1. Go Hiking (aka take a long long walk) - There are some gorgeous new places for you to take a scenic walk with your family - try the Southern Ridges walk in the southwest or the Changi Coast Walk in the east (see left). If you're a shutterbug, bring along your camera too - you're bound to catch some great photo ops along the way (see www.nparks.gov.sg).

2. Check out the Kid's Kampong - Located in Pasir Ris, Kid's Kampong provide interesting outdoor experiences of "longkang fishing" to children of all ages. This is something which you may have done as a child, but might be totally new and novel to your young one. Children learn best through hands-on activities, and longkang fishing will keep them active as they strategise how to catch the fish in the longkangs with a small net and bucket.longkangfishing

3. Go mall-hopping - Have you been too busy to visit the new malls in town? There's always Marina Sands, and if you haven't been to Orchard Road for awhile, pull on some comfortable shoes and go check out the latest malls at one go. If you keep going all the way to Iluma at Bugis, your legs will get quite a workout! And don't 'cheat' by stopping for extended coffee breaks or buffets in between malls Cool.

4. Go swimming - This is one of the best whole body workouts your family can do - if doesn't matter if some are better swimmers than others. Visit the Wet Wet Wet Theme Park at Downtown East or check out your neighbourhood pool - the pools at Anchorvale and Choa Chu Kang have slides and waterplay structures that are really popular with children and adults alike (see www.ssc.gov.sg).

5. Go Cycling - Are you tired of having to backtrack whenever you go cycling as you have to return rental bikes to the same place where you got them? Now you can rent a bicycle at one kiosk and return it at a different kiosk in the eastern part of Singapore. Completed in 2007, the Eastern Coastal Park Connector Network (PCN) is an interconnected cycling network with 6 stations or 'pitstops' that covers a total of 42 km. The first such bicycle rental service in Singapore, users can now rent their bicycles from any of the 6 pitstops operated by Lifestyle Recreation Pte Ltd and return it at any of the other 5 stations without backtracking their route (see http://www.lifestylerecreation.com.sg/)
