Let's Read: Tips to get your child to enjoy reading
My Preschooler

1. Keep an eye on your child's TV habits - Watch educational TV programmes with your children that teach letter sounds and words or give interesting information about nature and science.

2. Read to and with your children for 30 minutes every day - Read to babies even before they can talk. Help your children to read with you. Talk about the story and pictures in the book.

3. Get them a Magazine for Kids - Children love receiving mail. So, get them a subscription to a children's magazine they will enjoy reading.

4. Make sure they have plenty to read - Keep books that interest your children in places where they can easily reach them. Take them to the library regularly. Take advantage of library programmes such as storytelling sessions.

5. Use multimedia and the Internet - Stories on CD-ROM and in the Internet come alive with animation and sound. You can use these to get your child interested in stories.

6. Be a good role model. Let your children see you read - Share some interesting things with them that you have read about in books, newspapers or magazines.

7. Make reading fun! - Exaggerate and vary your voice to fit the characters and plot. Books with rhymes are fun to read out loud together with your child. Try the Dr Seuss series and Mother Goose's nursery rhymes.
